Robbie Brown's Bar Bar

Venue Description

Robbie Brown's Bar
A soldier, a surgeon, a voyager - Scotsman Robert Brown followed many vocations in his 84 years. A man born into a world forever changed by the values of the enlightenment, he was fascinated by the natural sciences, dedicating much of his life to observing and cataloguing the diverse botanical world of the Australian continent. A companion of Mathew Flinders aboard HMS Investigator - in 1804 Brown spent time studying the plant life along a Tasmanian river known to the local indigenous people as Promenalinah. In the intervening years a township called Browns River would develop along these river banks. The town may no longer bear Browns name but everywhere there are small reminders of his visit to this far southern corner of the world. Our humble bar is one small dedication to his memory and we welcome you to sit, enjoy and raise a drink to Robbie Brown.
