Pilsner

Description

One of the most popular lager styles in Germany, Pilsner originated in the city of Pilsen in Bohemia, which is in the Czech Republic but used to be a German-speaking province in the old Austrian Empire. The Pilsner style, or a method directly derived from it, is used to make the majority of beers today.

Traditional German Pilsners are well-hopped and usually have high hop bitterness, which can lead to a citrusy tang. The colour ranges from very light straw to golden and there will be a rich, dense head. German Pilsners may also demonstrate a wide variety of floral, herby or spicy flavours and aromas, which come from the range of "Noble" hops used in production.

Pilsners made in the Bohemian style (sometimes called "Czech Pilsners") have a lower hop bitterness and may have a biscuity or bread-like maltiness to them. They can also be slightly darker in appearance than their German-style counterparts. Country of Origin: Czech Republic, Germany.
