Irish

Description

Brewing in Ireland has a long history - by the 19th century, there were more than two hundred breweries in the country. Microbrewing was largely unsuccessful in Ireland, with Guinness dominating the market. It wasn't until the early 90's that a renewed effort in brewpubs and microbreweries saw some success, and the industry has been growing since.
Ireland is most famous for Stout, with Guinness remain the world's largest brewer of stout. Stout is black and bitter, with the roasted barley lending a burnt note. Stout is the darkest of dark beers, made with dark malts and the result of an effort for brewers to achieve a more robust Porter. While it remains the most popular beer for Irish drinkers, Lager has been steadily increasing in popularity.
