New Zealand

Description

Captain Cook brewed the first beer in New Zealand in 1770, attempting to create a treatment for scurvy. There is no historical evidence to show that M?ori people brewed beer prior to the arrival of European settlers, who introduced the main ingredients of beer to New Zealand in the late 18th century. In 1835, the first commercial brewery was opened, and in the 19th century, the styles of the UK and Ireland influenced New Zealand beers. The most popular beer styles were stouts, ales, and porters.
New Zealand's most popular original beer style is the NZ Draught. This beer is lightly hopped and malty, and thought to be originally influenced by Mild Ale. It is a copper gold colour, smooth with a long finish.
