Imperial

Description

Imperial beers include Imperial Stout, Imperial Pale Ale, Imperial Pilsner, to name a few. However, the origins of the term "imperial" is from the 1800's, when beer brewed in England was shipped to the Imperial court of Russia. The term evolved to indicate a brewer's top of the line beers, although nowadays it typically indicates a beer is going to be big and bold.
Imperial beers also typically have a higher alcohol content, in the range of 8-12%.
