Russian Imperial Stout (RIS)
Description
Russian Imperial Stout was originally brewed in England to export to the Russian Imperial Court. Its colour ranges from dark red-brown to black, with a rich, deep flavor. Bitterness is medium to very high, with high roasted malt and grain flavours.
American craft brewers have produced their own variation, with more bitterness, finishing hops and roasted character. English varieties remain more complex, with specialty malt character.
