Bala & Bottlecap Sydney (FREE SHOW)
Young Henrys: 345 Parramatta Rd Leichhardt, Leichhardt, NSW
05/05/2017 20:00
Presented by CherryRock + Young Henrys
For the first time ever, Melbourne’s infamous Cherry Bar together with beer lords Young Henrys, will present a special co-headline tour showcasing two of their new favourite European bands - together with their favourite Sydney locals.
BALA (which means Bullet in Spanish) are a female 2-piece of incredible power. After making waves all through Europe, they are trekking it over to us for their very first appearance in Australia. Imagine a mix of Motorhead and Kyuss fronted by Patti Smith and you’ll get something close to the thunder Anxela & Violeta bring to the stage.
BOTTLECAP are a Swedish 3-piece, high energy rock ‘n’ roll that sounds like the bastard of The Hives and The Hellacopters with an added 2017 cheeky grin. In your face rock n roll from Gothenburg City, Sweden!
After many a jaunt to Cherry Bar, James has hand picked Sydney’s favourite spicy boys THE LOCKHEARTS to join the bill. After an impressive run of sell out shows in 2016, they will be bringing their bell bottom swagger and unique brand of Americana Doom Fuzz to the Stag for the first time.
This CherryRock side show wouldn’t be complete without Sydney’s finest heavy blues merchants LE MANCHA NEGRA. After becoming one of the most raved about acts at Chopped and supporting Beastwars on the Sydney leg of their 2016 Australian tour, the boys have been laying low and will no doubt have an electrifying first show of 2017.
We know you don't know these bands yet, but Cherry and YH guarantee that when you see them live you will be talking about this show for the rest of the year COS YOU SAW THEM FIRST!"

"A tweet lured me to Turkey initially – an image of young women laughing in the street and the Turkish words #direnkahkaha, meaning #resistlaughter. It was one of thousands of tweets posted by Turkish women to protest comments by the country’s then Deputy Prime Minister who said women should not laugh in public. And it found me, 16,000 kms away."
"I went to Turkey to learn more about these women and connect with them. Tentatively beginning to call myself a feminist at the time, I wanted to celebrate their efforts and add my voice to theirs in the face of media censorship and marginalisation."
Through necessity of timing, Resist Laughter considers the influence of Government actions and rhetoric on everyday experiences of women in Turkey – on the street, in families, at home, in personal relationships – as told to Alana from those fighting for equality.
