FFS - Fright Night
The Nest (Two Birds): Level 2, Kings Cross Car Park, 9A Elizabeth Bay Road, Elizabeth Bay, Sydney, NSW
29/04/2017 17:00
SIX HOUR HORROR MOVIE MARATHON! Keep one eye on the exit as FFS stages an all-female fright night featuring some of the biggest names in horror. Guaranteed to raise your pulse beyond what you could achieve in your lounge room, this evening will be complemented by installations to keep you on your toes and scared out of your wits. Beers and snacks will complete the cliches, just bring your best blood-curdling scream and someone to say "Be right back!' XX XX is a new all-female helmed horror anthology featuring four dark tales written and directed by fiercely talented women: Annie Clark (St. Vincent) rocks her directorial debut with THE BIRTHDAY PARTY; Karyn Kusama (THE INVITATION, GIRLFIGHT) exorcises HER ONLY LIVING SON; Roxanne Benjamin (SOUTHBOUND) screams DON’T FALL; and Jovanka Vuckovic (THE CAPTURED BIRD) dares to open THE BOX. Award-winning animator Sofia Carrillo (LA CASA TRISTE) wraps together four suspenseful stories of terror featuring a cast including Natalie Brown, Melanie Lynskey, Breeda Wool and Christina Kirk. 2017 Sundance Film Festival – World Premiere 2017 Monster Fest Travelling Sideshow – Sydney – Australian Premiere 2017 Gold Coast International Film Festival BITCH The provocative tale of a woman (Marianna Palka) who snaps under crushing life pressures and assumes the psyche of a vicious dog. Her philandering, absentee husband (Jason Ritter) is forced to become reacquainted with his four children and sister-in-law (Jaime King) as they attempt to keep the family together during this bizarre crisis. As this scenario plays out as strangely and snappishly as might be expected, one could call "Bitch" a one-joke film — except this absurd conceit isn't really a joke at all. Marianna Palka's fourth feature is as brash and as blunt as its title, more abrasive than amusing in its snarling takedown of patriarchal family politics. "Bitch" premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. NEAR DARK In Phoenix, the young cowboy Caleb Colton meets the beautiful Mae late night in town and she asks for a ride to her trailer. It is near dawn and Caleb brings Mae that is in a hurry; he asks for a kiss and she bites him on the neck. Caleb's truck does not start and he walks home. However, when the sunlight hits him close to his farm, he starts to burn. His father Loy Colton and his sister Sarah witness a van that appears out of the blue and kidnaps Caleb. He is introduced to Mae's family: the leader Jesse Hooker, his mate Diamondback, the cruel Severen and the boy Homer. In common, all of them are predator creatures of night that need blood to survive. However, Caleb refuses to kill and Mae gives her own blood to him to keep him alive. Meanwhile Loy and Sarah are looking for Caleb; when they meet each other in a motel, Caleb has to choose between his beloved family or his love for Mae. One of the best vampire movies ever made!
