Vanishing Shapes At Foghorn Erina

Join us on one of our less questionable seasonal touring choices as we begin our treck back North after freezing in our good nations Capital, Canberra. On this stop we will be playing at the Foghorn Brewhouse in Erina. Vanishing Shapes are an eccentric folk band from Newcastle whose eclectic style was endearingly dubbed ‘fairy music’ during their first tour through Northern NSW. Their songs hint at melodic characteristics of Celtic, Turkish and Andean folk music with rhythmic ideas stemming from more juxtaposing influences such as math rock and progressive metal. Harmonic and compositional traits, including form and texture, often display influences from the realms of classical and jazz music.Despite the bizarre combination of styles that are the driving influences behind their sound Vanishing Shapes have found a home for their music in some unexpectedplaces. They have received a warm welcome at Newcastle’s warehouse and house party scenes, as well as supporting national and international touring acts such as Afenginn, The Crooked Fiddle Band and Asta. Keeping a regular tour schedule they have appearedat venues across NSW, Victoria and the ACT as well as performing at festivals including Wollombi Music Festival, Folk by the Sea and Bellingen Turtlefest. With a line up consisting of flute, clarinet, viola, classical guitar and double bass Vanishing Shapes have been pushing themselves to defy the laws of tradition in folk music. This has seen them creating an array of narrative driven pieces that bounce between being playful, harrowing and ethereal some of which have been released on their full length album, Urcheon(2015) and a concept EP, Tiny Planets(2016).
