Farmhouse

Description

Farmhouse ales are from a time when 'seasonal brews' were produced out of necessity, due to changing seasons and conditions. They were originally brewed from autumn through to early spring, and ceased during summer, and often enjoyed by the seasonal workers who tended the crops.
The ancient ale was traditionally brewed from farmers' own crops of grain, hops and yeast.
While the style was almost lost, it has been revitalized by modern craft breweries, and is most often categorized as a saison. It's often tart, crisp, and dry. It can be very complex, with earthy yeast tones, lots of spice and a medium bitterness.
