A corn beer called chicha has a long brewing history in Chile, with influence from the Andean cultures of northern Chile and Peru. In colonial times, apple and grape chicha was brewed as a cheap alternative to wines.
Modern beer wasn't brewed in Chile until the 19th century, after Chile gained independence and European beer was introduced.
German beers influence beer in Chile, and today there also 120 craft beer producers working in Chile.
