Rauchbier
Description
Literally meaning "smoke beer", Rauchbier dates back to the 16th century and originated in the German town of Bamberg. To achieve the smokiness, green malts are used which have been dried over an open fire of beech wood. This results in an assertive taste, reminiscent of smoked meat. Rauchbiers are mostly barley-based lagers and usually dark amber in colour, possessing similar traits to Oktoberfestbier.
