Strong
Description
Strong beers have an alcoholic content of 7% and over and are typically dark in colour, with some hues almost black. The strength of beers can be increased a number of ways, included re-pitching with champagne yeast or the freeze-distilling process. Fermentable sugars can also be added to increase alcohol content.
In 2011, Scottish brewery BrewDog produced Ghost Deer with an alcoholic content of 28%. This is thought to be the world's strongest beer produced by fermentation alone. In 2013, Scottish brewery Brewmeister released Snake Venom, which reached an ABV of 67.5%. This was achieved by including smoked peat malt, beer yeast and champagne yeast.
