India Pale Ale (IPA)

Description

Towards the end of the 18th century this version of a Pale Ale was brewed and exported to India for the British troops. Hops is a natural preservative, so the beer was heavily hopped to last the journey. A fruity flavour is created by the English yeast and IPAs are higher in alcohol content and more malty that standard Pale Ales. However, the alcohol content has been lowered over the years to reduce tax in the price.
